Sheet Pile Monitoring, A16 Rotterdam, NL

Rotterdam, The Netherlands
Project duration:  2022 – 2024

During the construction of the new A16 Rotterdam motorway, Basetime monitored the sheet pile wall along the River Rotte. This structure formed part of the activities executed by the “Groene Boog” alliance. Locator One units were used to continuously track horizontal deformation, ensuring structural stability throughout the construction process.

Basetime Locator One devices supporting sheet pile monitoring along the River Rotte during A16 Rotterdam motorway construction, tracking horizontal deformation.
A demonstrably safer working environment through continuous sheet-pile monitoring, significantly reducing risks for workers and liability toward the client and stakeholders.

Project Purpose

The objective was to precisely track horizontal displacement of the sheet pile wall, as significant vertical settlement was not expected. The monitoring setup had to detect deviations at an early stage, supporting safe and controlled execution of the infrastructure works.

Implemented Solution

Metal mounting plates were installed on the top of the sheet pile wall, each carrying a Locator One unit. These devices automatically collected measurements according to a fixed regime. Configured alert and limit values enabled immediate signaling of anomalies.

Key Results

Technical Requirements

Continuous tracking of horizontal deformation.

Reliable early detection of anomalies.

No line-of-sight required for measurements between the base point and the points to be measured (an open sky plot is required).
