Building Monitoring, Claes de Vrieselaan

Rotterdam, The Netherlands
Project duration:  May 2023 – November 2024
Two buildings on Claes de Vrieselaan were monitored during excavation works and the removal of a WWII bomb buried 8 meters below. After 83 years, the bomb required safe defusing. Continuous monitoring ensured structural safety and provided accurate deformation data throughout the operation.
Basetime’s Claes de Vrieselaan building monitoring setup in Rotterdam (2023–2024), showing Locator One units measuring structural movement during WWII bomb removal.

Increased safety for buildings and staff, with reduced CAR insurance premiums and lower liability risks.

Project Purpose

The objective was to perform highly accurate measurements twice per day to detect even the smallest building movements. This ensured operational safety during the bomb excavation and delivered reliable input for risk evaluation.

Implemented Solution

Four Locator One units were deployed to create stable measurement points delivering consistent, high-precision data. Start and end moments of workdays were automatically derived from the measurement series. Over the monitoring period, a total displacement of 20 mm was recorded across both buildings. Based on the data, the exact excavation date could be monitored.
